After twenty years of marriage…
by John Aquila ini just got a call from a friend who informed me that a brother whom i've known for a while and is an elder, just found out last night that his wife of 20+ years declared she was gay, and left him..
i still need to confirm but my friend is very reliable and was close friends with the family.
heres the thing, she spent 20+ years with this man, has children with him and now decides she wants to follow her heart.

My friend just called me (not the husband) and he is real upset. Not because of what happened, but because there are a ton of single sisters at the house with cookies and cakes and meals. And they all are dressed up to the hilt. He said they look like a bunch of vultures circling in for a kill. -

Preach, preach, preach....feel guilty...preach some more
by Tornintwo insince starting to wake up, i can't help notice how so many talks emphasise preaching, increasing your hours, pioneering etc...with a hefty load of guilt on the side.. i always noticed the guilt, but now i'm noticing how talks that seem to start out on another issue always seem to come back to hours!
visit talk seemed to start out about persecution, trusting in jehovah etc...but the main thrust in the end was, 'do more hours, pioneer, don't get an education or pursue a career, don't get distracted, hooray for the pioneers!
if you dont do more hours you will be 'the sort that shrink back to destruction'.

so you watchtower cynics/realists out there, what is the real reason?
Converts = $$$$$
If one convert donates $1 a week X 52 weeks in a year that's $52 a year
8 million members X $52 = $416,000,000 a year (almost 1/2 a billion)

If she would have come clean to begin with, he wouldn’t have wasted the best part of his life only to start over in his late 40s early 50s.
Would you be upset if this happened to you?

Unconvincing Evidence in September Watchtower
by bemused ini was looking at the september 2015 issue of the watchtower, which, unlike the simplified and study editions, appears to be aimed at non-jws.
a couple of articles caught my eye that quote biblical sources which are somewhat less than convincing to a non-believer.. firstly 'what do jehovah's witnesses believe?
' says that the core belief is that 'all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial'.

Firstly 'What do Jehovah's Witnesses Believe?' says that the core belief is that 'all scripture is inspired of God
So why do they admit in another magazine the complete opposite??
*** w96 4/15 p. 19 Why True Worship Receives God’s Blessing ***
Bible translations themselves are not inspired by God. Translations, by their very nature, may reflect variations of the understanding of the original tongues in which the Bible was recorded.
Including the New World Translation!!!!

Paul said NOT to be "Harsh" in Shunning
by FusionTheism inthe apostle paul warned the corinthians not to be too harsh in their shunning of a man who was guilty of sexual immortality / adultery:.
2 co 2:5-11: now if anyone has caused sadness, he has saddened, not me, but all of you to an extentnot to be too harsh in what i say.
this rebuke given by the majority is sufficient for such a man; now you should instead kindly forgive and comfort him, so that he may not be overwhelmed by excessive sadness.

This was Paul's idea.
I wonder where he got the idea?
(Acts 8:3) . . .Saul, though, began to deal outrageously with the congregation. Invading one house after another and, dragging out both men and women, he would turn them over to prison.

Not everyone in the congregation was to shun him.

JA, essentially correct except you've got a couple of things out of order. David knocked up Bathsheba first,
Oubliette
Shame on me. How could I forget? David saw her bathing.
Ha punkofnice, I hadn't seen that one before.

Let it be correctly acknowledged that the ancient Hebrews embellished stories about their god into creating its power and relevance, much like the majority of ancient civilizations.
In other words these stories are of fiction and that should be an accepted fact.
What if these stories are really true. What if there is a God and he is a maniac. That would explain all the crazy shi** in the world.
